School seeks new fencing to deter trespassers
PLANS to build a 2.4-metre-high fence bordering a Wombwell school for ‘security reasons’ have been submitted to the council.
If approved, the fence at Kings Oak Primary School, on Bondfield Close, will be replaced.
Documents show that the school requires more suitable fencing for security reasons – and the current fencing is too low, providing easy access for trespassers.
A total of 66 neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date.
Public consultation ends on January 1.
Retail plans for former temple
PLANNING permission is being sought to convert a former Kingdom Hall – a religious temple used by Jehovah’s Witnesses – into a retail area.
The Kingdom Hall currently resides on Carlton Road, Carlton – but it is understood that it has not been used for a number of months, with the congregation now gathering in the town centre.
The proposals put forward aim to convert the building into a retail space for the Grafter’s Warehouse.
A total of 21 neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans, with no appeals to date.
Public consultation ends on Christmas Day.
Go-ahead for Heritage Centre plans
PLANS to make alterations to a unit at Elsecar Heritage Centre have been approved by the council.
The alterations include a new disabled toilet, cleaning room and a baby changing facility at unit B12 at the site.
A report states: “The existing retail unit to be converted into a changing place facility is a part of Grade II* Listed Blacksmith Square within Elsecar Heritage Centre site.
“The unit is accessed directly by foot from the Elsecar car park off Distillery Side, Elsecar.
“Properties are accessed from a tarmac parking court via hard paved yards enclosed by metal fencing and pedestrian gates.”
An application was originally submitted in October for the work to go ahead, before the council’s planning department gave the go-ahead last week.
Permission sought for storage extension
PLANNING permission is being sought to extend a storage building in Carlton.
Work will be undertaken at the unit, which is currently based on Carlton Road and is used for storage of waste material, should the plans be deemed acceptable.
A total of 24 neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date.
Public consultation ends on December 29.
Approval for cabin plan
PLANS to erect a number of cabins in Tankersley have been approved by the council.
They will be added to Distinction Doors on Wentworth Way.
An application was originally submitted in October before Barnsley Council’s planning department gave the go-ahead last week.
Proposal for Hemingfield house
PLANS to convert two properties into one house in Hemingfield have been submitted to the council.
If approved, the work will be undertaken on Hallsworth Avenue.
A total of ten neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date.
Public consultation ends on January 2.
Appeal over apartment plan
PLANS to turn a former Grimethorpe doctor’s surgery into eight apartments – which were rejected by Barnsley Council – will now be decided by a government department.
Caxton House, on High Street, is the subject of a bid from Wakefield-based firm Property Investment Complete.
However, they were turned down in April but have now lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate.
Training centre proposal
GROUND floor offices could become a training centre if new plans are deemed acceptable.
The application is to change the offices at Innovate Workspace, based at Adwick Park, Manvers, into a vocational educational training centre.
The application is from Kent-based JTL with Sheffield firm Northern Town Planning Ltd acting as the agent.
The consultation period runs until December 26 and people can view the plans by visiting the Rotherham Council website.
Go-ahead for industrial unit
A NEW industrial unit is set to be built in Platts Common after the council’s planning board approved plans.
An application was submitted earlier this year to erect the ‘relatively small scale’ unit on Barrowfield Road.
A report states the unit will be used to repair and maintain vehicles.
It adds that around eight full-time jobs will be brought to the area.
These plans were given the green light by Barnsley Council’s planning department earlier this week.
Advertising board plan rejected
PLANS to install an illuminated advertising board at Cundy Cross have been rejected by the council.
An application was originally submitted in October for the board to be placed on Rotherham Road.
