AGE UK Barnsley are urging all over 50s in Barnsley to make sure they have access to photo ID ahead of May’s local election.
This May will be the first time that in-person voters will be required to show ID in order to be able to vote, following a change to the law introduced by government.
The requirement to show ID does not apply to postal voters this year.
Age UK Barnsley CEO Debby Bunn said: “It is really important that older residents make sure they have ID if they vote in-person at polling stations in plenty of time for the local elections in May.
“Those who haven’t got ID can apply for a free certificate from the council and you don’t need ID to vote by post.
“Don’t lose your right to vote - make sure that you’ve got your ID sorted.”
