BARNSLEY MPs Dan Jarvis and John Healey met Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in London this week.
President Zelensky gave a speech thanking the UK for its support, saying ‘freedom will win’.
It was his first visit to the UK since the war began and just his second confirmed visit out of Ukraine since Russian troops invaded last February.
He spoke in both the Houses of Parliament and in the historic Westminster Hall to MPs.
John, who represents Wentworth and Dearne, said: “It was a pleasure to meet President Zelensky following his powerful address.
“His inspirational words remind us of the cost of freedom, and the value of support provided by the UK and NATO allies.
“We stand united in support for Ukraine, as we did a year ago.
“It’s approaching a year since Russia’s invasion began and the UK continues to be united in its support of Ukraine making it clear that the country will stand with them for as long as it takes and signal to Putin that things will get worse not better for Russia.”
The president’s visit comes as it was announced that the UK will expand its training of Ukrainian forces to cover fighter jet pilots and marines.
Further sanctions are also set to be imposed on Russia, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed.
Dan, who represents Barnsley Central, added: “It was an honour to welcome President Zelensky to Parliament and listen to his powerful address.
“No one could fail to be moved by the spirit and strength of President Zelensky as he spoke, and we continue to be inspired by the defiance and bravery of the Ukrainian people since Russia’s reprehensible illegal invasion.
“It was a moment to reaffirm our commitment to Ukraine, and a reminder that our freedom and our democracy are invaluable.”
