BARNSLEY town centre will be losing more shops as a jeweller is closing down and a clothing store looks set to close as signs have appeared in the window.
Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, on Cheapside, and Bonmarche, in the Alhambra Centre, both have signs in their windows and on the front of the shops announcing a closing down sale.
A spokesperson for Beaverbrooks said one of the reasons for the jewellery store leaving Cheapside is that they have ‘reviewed the store’s performance’ and will be closing on March 14.
“At Beaverbrooks we are dedicated to providing an exceptional service for our customers through our store network and website,” said the spokesperson.
“As part of this we continually review our stores’ local positioning and performance. Due to a number of factors, we’ve unfortunately been unable to make our Barnsley store commercially viable and have therefore made the difficult decision to close it.
“The store will cease trading on Saturday, March 14.
“We are supporting the store team with solutions to enable them to continue working at Beaverbrooks.”
However, when contacted, the Bonmarche social team said they ‘could not confirm which stores are closing and which are remaining open’ as the Bonmarche ‘entire store estate is currently under review’.
Another store, Peter Jones, on Market Street, has had closing down signs in its windows for several months, but could not be contacted for more information.
