ON Monday June 25, Barnsley Town Hall will raise a special flag to mark the start of Armed Forces Day celebrations.
The mayor, Coun Steve Green will be in front of the war memorial outside the Town Hall at 10.30am and as the flag is raised, the national anthem will be sung and there will be short prayers.
The Mayor said: “I’m honoured to lead Barnsley’s Armed Forces Day service’s this year in support of our armed forces community.
"Our celebrations will begin on Monday as we raise the flag on the Town Hall and I hope to be joined by as many residents as possible."
Armed Forces Day itself takes place on Saturday June 30 which will also be observed by the Mayor at 10.30am in Barnsley Pals Centenary Gardens outside the Town Hall. The public are welcome to attend
