A BARNSLEY woman has been jailed after committing a second benefit fraud offence.
Ann Marie Hanson, 49, of Windsor Street, Thurnscoe, failed to notify Barnsley Council when her son started living with her, which therefore affected her entitlement to a benefit under social security legislation.
Her failure to declare this change in circumstances resulted in an overpayment to which she wasn’t entitled, amounting to £2,303 in housing benefit and £131 in council tax benefit, paid between October 2012 and July 2014.
Hanson received an eight-week prison term.
A council spokesperson said: "Ann Marie Hanson's previous conviction ought to have caused and prompted her to report any further changes in circumstances.
"We would urge anyone who is tempted to cheat the system to stop and consider the consequences of prosecution."
