A SPORTS student at Barnsley College has made history by becoming the first Barnsley female boxer to win a professional fight.

Jaymyleigh Pettinger claimed a 39-38 victory against Polish veteran Bojana Libiszewska. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in the world of boxing and highlights an exceptional talent and determination.

The historic fight took place on March 8, 2025 at the Metrodome, where Jaymyleigh showcased her incredible skills and resilience in the ring. Competing against a seasoned opponent, she demonstrated outstanding technique, strength, and strategic prowess, ultimately securing a unanimous decision victory.

Jaymyleigh said: “I am feeling on top of the world right now. I’ve won fights before, but this feels so different, knowing I’ve made history for Barnsley and winning on my debut at just 18 is a childhood dream come true.

“My next fight will be around summertime at the Metrodome, so I’m taking this week to fully rest my body, then on Monday I’m straight back on with my running and healthy eating.

“A year ago I never thought I could attend college, attend gym, train at home but also work part time and find time for my family. It’s tiring but this is my future and I will work as hard as possible to achieve my goals.”

A college spokesperson said: “Barnsley College remains committed to fostering an environment where students can excel both academically and athletically. We celebrate Jaymyleigh’s historic win and look forward to supporting her future endeavours in the world of professional boxing.”
