OVERNIGHT closures on the M1 slip roads at junction 37 will start from next week.

Motorists are asked to be aware that four months’ work begins on the gyratory and motorway slip roads in Dodworth and will include periods of night time road closures.

This is part of the national Pinch Point scheme to install traffic signals on the approach roads to the roundabout in order to improve capacity at the intersection.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for place, said: "This work will help us make sure we have the right transport infrastructure in place, which is crucial in ensuring Barnsley can facilitate growth."

Some works will take place throughout the day, however in order to minimize disruption to the travelling public the majority of works will be carried out overnight.

Closures will be kept to a minimum number in order to install underground ducting near the tops of the motorway slip roads and cut vehicle detection loops in the carriageway surface.

As the works programme is developed further updates will be sent out identifying the exact slip road to be closed, closure dates, times and diversion routes.

The diversion route will involve traffic being sent on to the next motorway intersection (to junction 36 or 38) and will double back on the motorway, back to junction 37, where it will leave via the opposite carriageway.
