A CARE home’s shoe box appeal – which looks to provide gifts to lonely residents at Christmas – has proved incredibly successful with only a few more donations needed to hit the target.

Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield has been running the appeal for a month now and has seen the community come out in force to help them support vulnerable elderly people this winter.

The team have collected hundreds of shoe boxes full of presents to be given to lonely residents in care homes across the borough and are now only 21 off their 250 target.

Manager Christian Whiteley-Mason said: “This year we have been overwhelmed by the support given to support the elderly with no families

“We are looking for 21 men’s medium or large shoe boxes which can include anything from underwear to socks to colouring books and sweets.”
