A LOCAL care home has turned its fortunes around after being rated ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Royal Court Care Home, based in Hoyland, currently cares for 25 older people – some of whom are living with dementia.

The CQC inspected the home earlier this year and rated it ‘inadequate’.

However the most recent inspection, which was published last week, shows the home is now rated as ‘good’.

A report states: “This assessment was to follow up on previous enforcement action we had taken against the service.

“Previously we were concerned about people’s safety, relating to managing risks, medicines and infection, prevention and control.

“We were also concerned about a lack of person centred care and ineffective governance.

“During this assessment, we found that significant improvements had been made.

“The provider had worked closely with the local authority and had addressed all concerns found at our last inspection.

“People and relatives told us the service had improved, particularly how the service was managed, activities in place, food choices and the environmental changes.

“People told us they felt safe living at the service and staff were kind.”
