WORK has begun on a new venue for local football teams, schools, and sports clubs.

Tthe new Parkside Centre at Hoyland Common, created in partnership with the Forge Community Partnership and the Football Foundation, will feature a café, fitness suites, archery range, pavilion, function rooms and social spaces.

Work will begin on a state-of-the-art 3G football pitch first.

When completed, the centre will be an all-weather, year-round venue that will be community owned and it’s hoped will help residents lead a happier, healthier and more connected lifestyle.

Coun James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “The new facility at Parkside is another great example of our investment in our local communities and improving the facilities available for residents to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.

“With both recreational and social spaces, we hope that the new centre will be a real hub in the local area, with the new 3G football pitch being the start of a wealth of benefits to the community.

“I’d like to thank residents in advance for their patience and co-operation while the work takes place, and I hope they enjoy using the new centre once it is complete.”

The new Parkside Centre will include:

  • 3G Football Pitch: A professional-grade, all-weather surface providing access to football and other sports for people of all ages and abilities throughout the year.

  • Community Café: A vibrant, casual café offering fresh food and beverages where residents can relax, connect, and foster friendships in a friendly environment.

  • Social Spaces: Flexible rooms for workshops, events, meetings, and leisure activities designed to bring the community together for shared experiences.

  • Fitness Suites: State-of-the-art fitness facilities that promote health and well-being, accessible to everyone in the community regardless of fitness level.

  • Function Rooms: Multi-purpose spaces available for hire, suitable for everything from private events and celebrations to corporate functions and community gatherings.

  • Dedicated outdoor archery range

Work will also begin on the new Pavilion building at the end of September. The 3G pitch will be completed by approximately March 2025 with the Pavilion finished by approximately July 2025.
