MORE than 1,100 council tax dodgers were summoned to court yesterday – less than a month after another 1,800 were fined.

The percentage of people in Barnsley paying their council tax on time has decreased annually, with the cost-of-living crisis named as a major factor.

A total of 1,168 liability orders were made at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court yesterday against residents who had not paid their council tax on time – as bosses attempt to crackdown on locals who are not paying.

A total of 51 businesses were also issued a liability order for non-payment of domestic rates.
