A NUMBER of Barnsley roads will be closed on one day in September to make way for the return of this year’s Tour of Britain.

It is the first time the cycling race will return to South Yorkshire in almost 20 years which will see stage three – on Thursday September 5 – head from Sheffield to Barnsley, taking in Rotherham and Doncaster along the route.

County Way will be closed from 6pm on Wednesday, September 4, until 10pm the following day.

Old Mill Lane and Bridge Gardens will also be close from 12pm on the day until 3.30pm.

Whilst Royal Street, Falcon Street, Canal Street, Sheffield Road, Eastgate and Harborough Hill Road – amongst more – will be closed from 1.30pm until 3.30pm.

A council notice states: “You won’t be able to access the Upper and Lower Seam car park from the evening of September 3 until the evening of September 5.

“The event is expected to bring a lot of positive attention to Barnsley on a national and international stage.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to maximise the benefits of expected increased footfall and visitors to the town centre.”

All closures are subject to change.
