A WOMEN’S football team’s players will complete a hike in order to raise cash for a domestic abuse charity.
Georgia Tagg, who plays for Penistone Church Women, said they decided to fundraise for IDAS.
The 26-year-old said: “We came together as a team wanting not just to fundraise for ourselves, but to help support our local community.
“We all nominated local charities that particularly helped support women and IDAS was voted the clear winner.
“We believe the work they do is incredibly important and we wanted to be able to help by making a donation whilst raising money to fund our upcoming season.
“This is why we want all proceeds from this event to be shared 50/50 between our team and IDAS.”
The 15 players taking part will start and finish their hike outside Penistone Grammar School, the training ground for their matches.
They will head towards Scout Dike Reservoir and walk its perimeter, then back up towards Ingbirchworth, around Royd Moor Reservoir and down Spicer House Lane, before looping back through Thurlstone and joining Old Anna Lane to finish.
Georgia added: “We would really like to promote women’s football and gain visibility for our team in the local area.
“If anyone would like to join us on this walk or find out more about the team or is even interested in joining us, we’d love for anyone to come along.”
