THE Central Libray is set to close at the end of the month in anticipation of the new Library @ the Lightbox opening.
The Central Library at Wellington House will close from Saturday June 1. The other libraries in Barnsley will remain open duing this period.
The Library @ the Lightbox is set to open on Saturday July 13.
In a statement from Barnsley Council it states: "It is only the library in Wellington House that will be closing; all other services in the building will remain as they currently are.
"During the closure, residents can borrow and return items at any library across Barnsley. Computer access is also available at other libraries. Items can be renewed online, and no fines will be charged for items borrowed from Central Library prior to closure.
"Alternatively, customers can keep any items and return them to the Library @ the Lightbox, once it is open."
Coun Jenny Platts said: “We’re excited for this next step in preparing for the Lightbox to open. Residents can make use of any of our brilliant libraries across the borough while Central Library is closed, and that includes borrowing books and accessing computers.
“We want to see everyone come together on the weekend of July 13 and 14 for the grand opening of Library @ the Lightbox.
"This is set to be an amazing weekend of celebration for Barnsley, with the Mayor’s Parade and Pride happening that weekend also.”
