BLOCKBUSTER has plunged back into administration putting jobs at risk at the borough's only remaining store.
Staff in Wombwell face an agonising wait as the race gets underway to find a buyer for Blockbuster after the firm went bust for a second time this year.
Simon Thomas and Nick O'Reilly of Moorfields Corporate Recovery LLP were appointed as joint administrators of TS Operations Ltd, which trades as Blockbuster.
It follows Gordon Brothers Europe acquiring the business and assets of Blockbuster Entertainment Ltd and Blockbuster GB Ltd in March.
Since then the company tried to turn around the historically loss-making company by restructuring the business.
The company also tried to develop a new digital platform but was unable to broker a licensing deal in time.
Simon Thomas, joint administrator, said while the company is in administration every effort will be made to ensure retail trade continues as normal and the firm is encouraging customers to visit stores and continue to rent and buy as usual.
