A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy who was fighting a rare and aggressive form of cancer has died.
Little Oliver Field had been battling neuroblastoma since he was eight months old. He died at home with his parents, Laura and Paul, brother Sam, and grandparents by his side.
Oliver's grandmother Catherine, 53, of South Drive, Dodworth, said: "He's the bravest little fellow.
"He was always happy and smiling and he loved his dinosaurs and cars. He loved dancing and was always copying his brother, Sam.
"We all got a little cuddle from him."
Oliver visited a London hospital twice in June, where he underwent a scan to see if the tumour could be treated.
But Catherine said it couldn't and he never really picked up after that.
"He'd already had some radiotherapy in Leeds and it had made him so weak. We also found out last Monday that his tumour had spread.
"He just got on with it and when he was unwell, he was just waiting to get better."
Laura and Paul, of Dalton, near Huddersfield, were dealt a double blow when Sam, five, was diagnosed with meningitis in April, but he has since recovered.
Oliver's grandfather, Stewart, 52, said the family appreciated the generosity shown to them by Barnsley people.
He said: "We've raised a lot of money in Barnsley and we never expected it. We just want to say thank you."
Up to £170,000 has been raised through The Oliver Field Appeal which will now be used to help families affected by neuroblastoma.
