LOCALS are being urged to sign up for the Barnsley 10k – with more people already signed up than last year.

The race will take place on Sunday, June 29 after returning last year.

Organised by Barnsley Council’s Sport and Physical Activity team, the race returned in June, helping to mark 50 years since the first Barnsley Marathon in 1974.

Scott Hinchcliffe of Barnsley AC, who clocked a time of 32:34, was the overall 2024 winner while Eleanor Baker, also representing Barnsley AC, was the fastest female, finishing in 34:58.

But it wasn’t all about finishing first – the event saw more than £50,000 raised for charity thanks to many of the 1,156 finishers fundraising for worthy causes.

The council has confirmed there’s now less than 800 spots remaining, meaning they have already surpassed last year’s total.

A spokesperson said: “If you’ve not booked your place for this year’s event, which will be held on Sunday June 29, what are you waiting for?”
