BARNSLEY Council has issued an update on gritting and grit bins across the borough.
The council says that teams have been working day and night gritting main primary roads and will continue through tonight into early morning.
“We were prepared for the weather, but it’s been tough with the snowfall, rain and then freezing temperatures. It’s been difficult to respond to and we want to thank you for bearing with us,” said a council spokesperson.
The council say that they started gritting secondary routes yesterday daytime when they were satisfied that main primary gritting routes were passable.
“We’ll continue working on secondary routes for the rest of the week. Please remember not to park opposite other vehicles in a way that prevents our gritters and emergency vehicles getting through safely.
“A number of reported issues on routes include St Andrews Drive, Mapplewell; Bruce Avenue off Mount Vernon Road and the bottom of Summer Lane, Wombwell.
“We’re replenishing the grit in grit bins across the borough. Grit is for use on the highway and not for personal use.”
