PUPILS at Cawthorne Church of England Primary School had a special visit from police officers this week as part of the ‘Don’t Drive Daft’ campaign.

The campaign focuses on the five leading causes of road traffic collisions that end in a fatality or a serious injury – speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and distractions.

Officers from Barnsley West’s Neighbourhood Policing Team were on hand to speak with pupils on Wednesday.

A spokesperson said: “As part of ‘Don’t Drive Daft’ week, local PCSOs have been out visiting local schools and doing parking patrols around school drop off and collection times.

“On Wednesday afternoon, PCSOs went on patrol with Cawthorne School Council.

“The pupils advised drivers about parking on double yellow lines, parking in a bus stop and parking obstructing the pavement.

“They also gave thumbs up and good parking congratulations to the majority of drivers.”
