A CHURCH is set to donate more than 150 boxes to support Ukrainians this Christmas.
Buckley Methodist Church, based on Union Court, has been collecting shoeboxes brimming with items to donate to those who have been affected by the war.
Coun Nicola Sumner, who represents the Central ward, recently visited the church with Coun Janine Moyes.
She said: “It is always a pleasure to attend the Buckley Methodist Church coffee morning where we hold our council surgeries.
“It takes me back to my childhood and we always get a coffee and teacake.
“It was wonderful this week to see the hive of work the church has put in with 160 shoe boxes donated by residents.
“They will be sent to Eastern Europe to help those suffering due to the terrible war in Ukraine.
“The church also has to find £3 per shoe box, that’s an additional £480 towards the customs duty.
“They do great work and it’s a highlight each month to see such an active and busy coffee morning in the community.”
