BARNSLEY residents are being encouraged to join the Great Cable Challenge and recycle small electronics and cables at pop-up collection points across Barnsley during Recycle Week.
Between Monday (October 14) and Saturday (October 19), collection points will be in the Glass Works and libraries, including the Lightbox and those in Cudworth, Hoyland, Penistone, Royston, Wombwell and Goldthorpe, for residents to recycle unwanted and unused cables and electronics.
Councillor James Higginbottom, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “Electrical waste is the fastest growing source of waste in the UK, and we are asking residents to do their bit to help us recycle their unwanted cables during International E-Waste Day.
“Our pop-up collection points in the Glass Works and our libraries during recycle week will make it easy for residents to recycle their small electricals and cables, with staff on hand to help and offer advice.
“Recycling forms an important part of our Sustainable Barnsley goal and events such as this helps us to raise awareness of items we often forget can be recycled and reused.”
The collection points will be located in the Glass Works atrium (excluding Thursday October 17), the Lightbox and the Principal Town libraries during the week.
Following the pop-up collection points, residents will be able to recycle their small electronics at household waste recycling centres.
