ADMISSIONS at Barnsley Hospital’s A and E department are on the rise with more than 400 people turning up on a number of days, a report has revealed.

The report, discussed by board members at the trust on Thursday, admits that the emergency department at the Gawber Road site is facing ‘continuing pressures’.

It added: “Attendances continue at a high level with some days touching 400 – and admissions are up 15 per cent.

“The work on improving discharge arrangements continues and bed occupancy has improved to 92 per cent largely due to focussed work.

“The number of bed days lost due to delayed discharges is not the best in the North East and Yorkshire region and there is a continued focus on ensuring discharges happen early each day.”
