SAFETY measures to protect wildlife at Elsecar Canal have been vandalised.
A Barnsley Council spokesperson said: “We currently have some lovely swans and cygnets in the area and to protect them, the Hoyland, Milton and Rockingham Ward Alliance allocated funding for a cygnet stopper to prevent injuries at the lock.
“Unfortunately, despite having been in place for only a few weeks, it has already been severely damaged.”
