PLANS to build 83 homes in Platts Common have been approved.

They will be built north of Wood Walk, eight of which will have two bedrooms, 48 three bedrooms and 19 four bedrooms.

In terms of affordable housing, three one-bedroom houses, three two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom properties are proposed.

Three letters of objection were submitted to the council with concerns regarding loss of green space, reduced highway safety and increased air pollution among the issues.

Coun Andy Wray also raised concerns over access to the site, especially in terms of potential dangers and disruptions to the nearby Dearne Valley Parkway.

Despite this, the proposal – from Yelcon Construction and The Cornell Group – received approval at a planning meeting on Tuesday.
