STAFF at the Parkway Cinema in Barnsley have used their eighth anniversary celebration to say they see no reason to worry yet amid rumours of a new multiplex cinema.
Parkway re-opened the town centre cinema in August 2007 following the closure and subsequent sale by Odeon in September 2005.
The first full week of films began on Friday, August 10 with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Simpsons Movie, Die Hard 4.0 and Shrek the Third.
Director Rob Younger said: "We were extremely saddened by the untimely death of one of the original Directors and business partners. Gerald Parkes MBE sadly passed away in May 2013. Without his enthusiasm, dedication and support, it is unlikely that the cinema would have ever reopened.
"Against all odds, the cinema is still open and entertaining the people of Barnsley. With just two screens, we have to select the films carefully, but generally we provide a good mix of the latest releases.
"Once again there is talk of a new multiplex (or possibly two) coming to the town. What's our thoughts? Ten years after Odeon panicked and closed the building, there is still no multiplex. Thanks to our superb and loyal customers, we see no reason to worry yet."
