A NEW shop selling old-fashioned sweets has opened in Barnsley.

The Sweet Shop (Traditional Confectionery) on Hunt Street, Hoyland Common, has been set up by Andrea Ogden, 57, of Hoyland Road.

Customers are having sweet memories stirred by its jars of traditional toffees, liquorice and caramels.

Mum-of-three Andrea said working in "something traditional" was always a dream of hers.

"I used to work with adults with learning disabilities in Barnsley so this is something completely different," she said.

"This building had been used as a sweet shop before but then came up so I went for it."

Andrea also sells ice creams, milkshakes, slushes and personalised party bags for kids.

She added: "If someone remembers a favourite, much-loved sweet and I can get it, I will. I just got some aniseed drops for one elderly customer. I love it."
