PLANS to create a new 72-space car park have been approved by the council.

An application for work to take place within Welfare Park in Goldthorpe was originally submitted in July.

The area has been derelict for more than 30 years and was formerly a tennis park.

The car park will transform an unused and neglected space into much needed car parking relief to reduce grass verge parking in Welfare Park and the surrounding area from the patrons of the Dearne Playhouse, Dearne and District Football Club, Goldthorpe Lift Centre, and the I Know I Can Youth Centre.

The plans were given the green light by Barnsley Council’s planning board earlier this week.

PLANS to convert a former betting shop in Kendray into three new flats have been approved by the council. An application for the work to start at the former Tore Bookmakers, on Birk Avenue, was originally submitted in August. These plans were given the green light by the council’s planning board last week.

PLANS to convert an attic in Shafton into additional living space have been submitted to the council. If the application is approved, work will take place on Chapel Street.

PLANNING permission is being sought to erect a garage and a two-metre-high boundary wall at a property in Darton. If approved, work will take place on Meadow Lane. Eight neighbouring properties have been made aware of the application with no appeals to date. Public consultation ends on December 12.
