SOUTH Yorkshire Police are encouraging people to hand in any dangerous knives they have to a safe drop-off point.

There are currently two locations in Barnsley – The Vape Store on Regent Street and Churchfield Police Station – where knives can be dropped off.

A spokesperson for the police said: “There are a number of knife amnesty bins located across South Yorkshire, where anyone can drop off any dangerous or unwanted knives and bladed articles.

“These bins are in place all year round and there are no consequences if weapons are disposed of safely in one of these locations.

“The law has recently changed around zombie-style knives and machetes, meaning it is now illegal to own, sell or transport these as they have been added to the banned weapons list.”
