A POPULAR fast food restaurant could be built in a supermarket’s car park if plans are given the go-ahead.

Planning permission is being sought to build a Burger King chain in the car park of Tesco at Stairfoot, Wombwell Lane.

If the plans are approved, the new restaurant will be built next to the petrol station with 57 of the current 110 car parking spaces being lost.

However a report states these spaces are not needed by Tesco or the recently-opened gym.

A total of 35 jobs will be created through the proposed restaurant, which will operate between 8am and 11pm daily.

Eighteen neighbouring properties have been made aware of the plans with no appeals to date.

Public consultation ends on September 23.
