CHAMPION race walker Mick Barker – who at 85 bagged two medals in a European competition earlier this year – has broken another record.

Mick, of Lavender Court in Kendray, smashed the five-kilometre road walk record at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Poland by completing the race in 39 minutes.

This week he received confirmation of the feat – but has no plans on stopping just yet and will race in Oxford this weekend before heading to the world championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, in August.

Mick said: “I’m very proud of the record – it was a good championships for me and I’m looking forward to trying to break more records.”
