A LOCAL museum is appealing for volunteers having been forced to close its doors for a day this weekend.

Darfield Museum is staffed by volunteers and is unable to open on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: “We are entirely staffed by volunteers and we don't have enough volunteers to be able to open this Saturday. In particular, we need people to serve tea and cake in our tearoom.

“Unless we're able to recruit new volunteers we will be forced to reduce our hours and close on some days. This little gem has been in our village for many years. We welcome school groups who are learning about the past and local history, we put on fun events and are a community hub for people to meet and chat over a cuppa.”

If you or someone you know could give us a few hours each month to help in the tearoom please drop them a message on Facebook.

They added: “Our hours are 1-4pm on a Wednesday and 10-2 on a Saturday. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over but no experience is necessary.”
