DELAYS continue and a diversion is in place as a section of a busy Barnsley road remains closed after a burst water main in the early hours of this morning.
Many motorists reported problems in this morning's rush hour and Yorkshire Water has apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Yorkshire Water says that work is underway to complete a repair on the 600mm main and the road closure will remain in place to allow this to be done safely.
The water company is also assessing any consequential damage to the road surface caused by the burst, which will need to be repaired before the road can be reopened. It says it has worked closely with the local authority to put a diversion route in place.
A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience the closure of a section of Grange Lane will cause. We will be working as quickly as possible to complete the repairs and to repair any damage to the road surface. The damage to the road surface is still being assessed on site.
“We and our partners will be working quickly to reopen the road as soon as possible and thank our customers for their patience while the repairs are carried out.”
