TWO Barnsley schools have saved more than 70,000 plastic bottles from landfill thanks to uniforms being made from recycled bottles.
Outwood Academy Carlton and Outwood Academy Shafton, both under Outwood Trust’s wing, saved 33,464 and 38,111 bottles respectively from heading off to a landfill site this year.
Each blazer at the school saves around 36 plastic bottles, with boys’ school trousers saving 19.
Katy Bradford, chief operating officer at the Outwood, said: “We are passionate about the environment and promoting the importance of sustainability.
“The students of today are the adults of tomorrow and it’s our duty to ensure we do all we can to make sure the world they inherit is a healthy one.”
