A BARNSLEY charity that was set up to help local disabled children is fund-raising so it can develop a multi sensory room.

The Little Hopefuls Children's Charity runs weekly sessions at Houghton Road Community Centre in Thurnscoe, it has a play group every Saturday morning from 9.30am.

Spokesman Michael Brice said: "The play group has really taken off but there are quire a few children who are wheelchair bound that would really benefit from something like a sensory room.

"We were surprised by how many children are coming, but it makes me feel really bad that we've got some kids with cerebral palsy who are just kind of sat there because there's nothing for them to do."

The group has already got a £4,000 grant to pay for the equipment it would need to convert a storage room at the community centre - but it is used at the moment to keep the tables and chairs.

A secure locker is needed outside to relocate them but that would cost £1,200 that the grant won't cover.

The group has 40 members which have a range of disabilities like autism, blindness and cerebral palsy.
