AN underspend of more than £8,000 was recorded by the Central Area Council last year.
Area councils – of which there are six across Barnsley – are responsible for commissioning localised schemes in villages and all receive £10,000 per annum from Barnsley Council.
However, the Central Area Council only used £1,168 of its £10,000 allowance in 2023/24, meaning more than £8,800 was carried forward to 2024/25.
The total funding pot available stands at £18,832.
