HISTORIC church bells which have been ringing for nearly 200 years are the subject of an investigation by Barnsley Council – after a resident lodged a noise complaint.
The bells at St Paul’s Church in Monk Bretton regularly ring around the village to the joy of many.
But it has been confirmed the council are currently investigating a resident’s complaint.
Coun Wendy Cain, cabinet spokesperson for public health and communities, said: “Where the council receives a complaint alleging a nuisance, we have a statutory duty to investigate.
“We can confirm we are investigating a complaint about the church bells at St Paul’s.
“However, this investigation is still ongoing and has not been concluded yet and are therefore unable to provide any further information at this time.”
