A NEW storage and distribution unit – which will be used to sell power tools – is set to be built in Pogmoor after the council approved plans.
The site, based on West Road, is an area of land measuring approximately three-quarters of a hectare.
It sits predominantly between industrial units and access is taken from West Road via a track between the Barnsley Driving Test Centre and a disused site.
It has previously been mooted for a 20-pitch caravan site with a community centre – but these plans were subsequently withdrawn.
Instead, the new unit will be built after the council approved the plans earlier this week despite two letters of objection from residents.
A report states: “The applicant seeks permission to erect a storage and distribution building.
“The building would be used to store and sell power tools predominantly to the trade but also to the general public.
“Externally the existing access track would be upgraded and lead to a parking area for 21 vehicles to the front of the building.
“Consultation letters were sent to 47 neighbouring properties and a site notice was erected within close proximity of the site.
“Two letters of objection have been received as a result.”
