HISTORIC records from Gawber Primary School – which reference Emmerdale’s own Stan Richards – are now on display at Barnsley Archives.

The local school has been operating since the 1860s and documents including log books, admission registers, a corporal punishment book and photographs spanning over a century are available to be seen at the town hall-based service.

Over the years, the school has gone through multiple name changes, and it is one of the oldest in Barnsley.

Appearing on the admissions registers is Stanley Richardson, who attended the school in the 1930s and would go on to play beloved character Seth Armstrong in Emmerdale for many years.

Jon Finch, head of culture and visitor economy, said: “Barnsley Archives is a treasure trove of information about our local heritage and culture.

“The new collection of the school records will reveal the stories and experiences of generations of students and teachers.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for anyone who has a connection to the school to explore its past.”
