BARNSLEY Council is currently trying to recover almost £7,000 in ‘errors’ sent out in the council tax reduction scheme.
Through the National Fraud Initiative (NFI) – the cabinet office’s public data matching exercise – the council has identified errors in money they have sent out to residents.
A report, which will be discussed on Wednesday, shows that the council are currently investigating eight cases of errors relating to the council tax reduction scheme.
They are attempting to recover a total of £6,988.
There are currently 35 open anti-fraud investigations taking place at the council – ranging from council tax exemptions, welfare benefits and tenancy fraud.
