A LOCAL charity donation centre is ready to re-open after being forced to close for three weeks after a faulty boiler tap caused extensive damage.
The flooding at The Salvation Army donation centre at Unit 1 on Old Mill Lane damaged stock and brought a ceiling down and manager Lewis Griffiths and his staff have been working hard to re-open the popular centre.
“A lot of stock was damaged and we have had to get a new ceiling and new carpets. This week we are finally getting the electrics fixed and we will be opening our doors again on Friday.
“It’s been hard work but it’s been lovely to learn how loved we are with people enquiring when we’ll be back open and people bringing us cups of tea while we’re working.”
The centre has still been able to accept donations as the donation bins in the car park have been unaffected and the furniture section of the centre was luckily unaffected by water damage.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming our customers back from Friday,” added Lewis.
“And we are also in the early stages of a launching a community project in-store and are hoping to have a Pantry section stocking perishable food items which we can give away to customers.”
Anyone who wants to get involved in the new project is asked to contact Lewis by email barnsley.DC@satcol.org
The donation centre will re-open on Friday at 9am.
