MOTORISTS who commute on Barnsley’s stretch of the M1 fell foul of committing multiple offences during a police operation which saw officers ride in a HGV cab.

Roads policing officers prowled the motorway as part of Operation Tramline last month.

Offences spotted included 16 people not wearing seat belts, 13 drivers using mobile phones, two speeding offences and 13 red light runners.

A police spokesperson said: “The elevated position of the cab allowed us to capture footage of some really poor and potentially dangerous driving and make some effective interventions.

“Once we identified and offence, the offending vehicle was intercepted by a marked police car, with the driver spoken to and dealt with.”
