BARNSLEY Hospital has been awarded £748,482 in funding from the Department of Health to improve facilities on the maternity unit.

This will allow the layout of the labour suite to be radically transformed.

Barnsley Hospital was one of three South Yorkshire hospitals awarded a share of a £25million fund to improve and upgrade maternity units across the country - and it's received the maximum amount of funding available to any one trust.

Chief Nurse Heather McNair said: “We are very pleased to have been awarded the full amount of funding available to us.''

Sue Gibson, the hospital’s head of midwifery and all her team worked extremely hard on the bid to ensure that Barnsley families could have the best birthing experience possible.
