Johnson Praises Young Reds' Character
BARNSLEY boss Lee Johnson praised his young side's character in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chesterfield.
In what was dubbed as a "cup final" in the run-up to the crucial clash, sixth-placed Chesterfield took the lead through Jay O'Shea in the 26th minute before Sam Winnall's well-taken effort after the hour mark earned the home side a deserved point.
Although the Reds' play-off hopes now look very slim with four games to go, their seven-point deficit could still be pegged back if they win at relegation-threatened Notts County tomorrow evening.
Their remaining games against outside play-off hopefuls Peterborough and Bradford follow, before Rochdale visit Oakwell in the final game of the League One campaign on May 3.
Johnson, whose side are now without a win in six, said: "People will forgive as long as you're failing bold and trying to do things. They came out second half and gave it a right go.
"They showed a bit of character there, considering it's a young group. We pegged a very good side back to the edge of their 18-yard box for the majority of the second half."

New Bus Changes Set To Come Into Force
CHANGES to some of the town's bus services have been announced.
Among the changes being introduced are increases in daytime running times on the X20 Barnsley-Doncaster service, as well as some redistribution of and increased running time on peak hour journeys.
As a result of the changes to the X20 there will be minor retiming of some afternoon journeys on the X19 Barnsley-Robin Hood Airport service.
Running time on the 22X Barnsley-Rotherham will be increased to improve punctuality, although departure times from Rotherham, and frequency, will remain unchanged.
Revised timetables on the 57, 59, and 59A Barnsley-Royston-Wakefield services will see increased running times all day Monday-Saturday.
The current ten-minute frequency will be maintained through the use of an extra vehicle, plus additional peak hour journeys to and from Wakefield will be added.
The morning journey of service 444 Staincross-Darton College will also be retimed with increased running time to improve punctuality due to worsening traffic congestion.
Minor revisions to the Monday-Friday timetable will be made in peak times on services 93/95 Barnsley-Woolley Grange-Kexbrough to improve punctuality.
Revised timetables will be introduced on 222 Barnsley-Doncaster as well as the 226 Barnsley-Thurnscoe to maintain coordination with other services, while the Sunday evening timetable on service 228 Rotherham-Wath will be brought in line with Monday to Saturday evenings.

Group Win Tyke Racing Treasure Hunt
A GROUP won £300 in a town centre treasure hunt today organised by Tyke Racing.
Obscure images of town centre locations were posted to both the go-kart firm and We Are Barnsley's Facebook pages from 10am, creating a two-hour frenzy of people searching for the treasure's location.
Monk Bretton's Danielle Wood, 25, tracked down the clues and came across fellow treasure hunters Robyn Hargreaves, 18, Michelle Richardson, 34, and her ten-year-old daughter Chantelle along the way.
The trio, from Hoyland, then joined forces with Danielle, pledging to split the money in two if they found the treasure's location.
Michelle said: "We had been shopping in the town centre but Robyn had noticed the posts on Facebook during the week, advertising what was going on. We missed out on the treasure hunt before Christmas so tried again.
"We kept an eye on the pages in the morning and just followed the clues. We're so happy we've won - I think we're going to save our share of the money and have a bank holiday treat in May."
Danielle added: "I'd heard about it and as I was on my way home from Leeds, I decided to walk through the town centre. The three girls asked me if I was the person from Tyke Racing and then we decided to join forces.
"My partner, Paul, has his 27th birthday soon so I'll be able to put the money towards something nice!"

Reds To Treat Chesterfield Clash As Cup Final
BARNSLEY have to face Saturday's crucial Chesterfield clash like a "cup final", according to head coach Lee Johnson.
After a nightmare Easter bank holiday period, where they lost to fifth-placed Sheffield United and lowly Colchester, they're now seven points adrift going into the match against the team who occupy the final play-off place.
"It was a disappointing Easter weekend for us," Johnson said. "In the big picture, it was probably two games too far. We had a punch on the nose against Sheffield United and we went to Colchester hoping to bounce back.
"I thought we did. I'll stand by the players because I thought for 60-70 minutes we were okay and verging on half-decent. But we drained physically and mentally.
"You have to fight to the death, of course we'll do that. We've done it already and got six wins on the spin. It happens in football. This will be a big one, of course.
"It's a case of this is our first cup final, if you like. We have to make sure we play better than we did against Sheffield United."

Barnsley Council offers advice about the problem of dog fouling on its website and has an online complaint form. It says at its worst, dog mess can lead to blindness in children due to an infection called toxocara canis.
The advice says it is an offence for a person in charge of a dog not to clean up immediately after their dog fouls any designated land.

He said: "The amount was announced at a meeting of the members who voted 96 per cent in favour of me serving a second term as president.

Nightmare Bank Holiday Leaves Reds Seven Points Adrift Of Play-Offs
A MISERABLE bank holiday weekend saw the Reds suffer back-to-back defeats for the first time in two months.
Having recorded five wins and three draws in his first eight games in charge, Lee Johnson's side went into Saturday's South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United in confident mood.
Over 17,000 fans flocked to a sun-drenched Oakwell to watch the match, but it was Steven Davies who put the visitors ahead just before half time with a fine header.
The game was put to bed midway through the second half when Jason Holt's 20-yard effort doubled United's lead to consolidate their play-off place.
A trip to relegation-threatened Colchester was next up on Easter Monday and the Reds looked good going into the final 30 minutes, leading through George Waring's 40th-minute goal.
But the game was then turned on its head, with Gavin Massey, Jacob Murphy and George Moncur all finding the back of the net to leave Barnsley seven points adrift off the League One's top six.
Johnson said: "It is disappointing, of course, as we have been on a good run and everybody has whipped up into a frenzy.
"It was almost like a balloon had just been popped. Players started looking they'd had two games in two days, mentally rather than physically. We've given ourselves a lot to do now."
Next up for Barnsley is a crucial match at home to sixth-placed Chesterfield on Saturday.

Dog Owners Warned As Lambing Season Gets Into Full Swing
DOG owners have been warned to keep their pets on leads while around livestock in a bid to reduce the risk of animals being injured or attacked.
As lambing season continues, officers have received calls from local farmers expressing concerns about dogs worrying their livestock.
Dog owners could be liable for prosecution if they fail to control their pet.

"Pregnant animals can miscarry or go into early labour, which is incredibly distressing for both the animal and the farmer.
"Even if the dog doesn't attack or injure the livestock, the presence of a dog can be enough to send animals into shock. Sadly, many animals have to be euthanised after a dog attack.
"Don't run the risk of prosecution and keep your dogs on a lead while around livestock."

First Look At Proposed Sculpture
THIS is the first image of what the proposed £100,000 bronze statue of ex-Barnsley player Tommy Taylor will look like.
It's been designed by Graham Ibbeson and portrays Taylor - who died aged 26 in the 1958 Munich air disaster - heading the ball.
"I wanted to do something different than the usual footballer sculpture," Graham said. "Too often they're simply either men just stood or perhaps in ball-kicking pose.
"I decided by creating three figures that are all in one the sculpture would flow more and give a better impression of how he could rise above defenders."
